History of the Crisis Kit: This project was inspired by New Year’s Day 2026 posts on the NYC-DR listserv where a community member shared that they felt hated and shunned by several hundred thousand people and that they had been suicidal. Even though it was a community of trained communicators and conflict resolvers, people seemed unsure how to respond, and the idea for this toolkit was born.

Note: This infographic was created using RPS Coach, with just the following prompt and no other inputs (drawing on the general Chat GPT LLM and the specialized RPS Coach library from John Lande’s writings related to dispute resolution):

“Please make me a toolkit to help people who are on a large listserv address difficult issues when someone posts to the whole group to complain, insult other people, share their own history of rejection, or share their mental health needs. The toolkit should cover the following issues and be available as a worksheet as well as in an infographic: -Resources for Responding to Distress Including Suicidality -Resources for Social Inclusion of Folks With Neurodivergence, Trauma, and Mental Illness (and Everyone) -Resources for Addressing Challenging Behaviors Without Writing People Off -Templates for Responding in Community Settings and Public Settings as Well as For Private Engagement”
